Extensions to Legislation

Regulations proclaimed by the Government provided for the Beverage Container Provisions of the Environment Protection Act to be extended to cover the following beverages, effective from 1st January 2003.

  • Ready to drink Cordial

All sizes up to and including 3000 ml

Pure Fruit Juice
(means a liquid at least 90 per cent of which is fruit juice or vegetable juice or a mixture of fruit and vegetable juices)

Less than 1 litre

Flavoured Milk

  • Cows Milk
  • Goats Milk
  • Soy Milk

Note: This chart is provided as a guide only

All of the above beverage containers must be approved prior to marketing by the Environment Protection Agency and all must bear a ten cent deposit refundable at Collection Depots.

In addition Regulations exempting alcoholic cider and refillable glass soft drink containers have been repealed.

Manufacturers and distributors should contact the EPA if they require confirmation as to whether a beverage container is covered by the Beverage Containers provisions of the Environment Protection Act, 1993.
